WTT Innovation

WTT is the only company fully dedicated to and specialized in the wood industry with a full portfolio of both mainstream and niche wood treatment technologies.

WTT Innovation is not only a technology provider. We also develop new wood products, protection systems, and service offerings.

The projects are run as internal projects or in cooperation with customers and manufacturers of wood preservatives and oils.

At the moment we are heavily involved in:

  • Post treatment of thermally modified timber with new oil types for UV stability
  • Further NWPC certification of two hardwood species
  • Development of safe and cost effective substitutes for creosote
  • Basic research studies on the mode of action in modified wood

In order to document whether development candidates are efficient, we assign testing with leading independent institutes on a regular basis.

We also test products at our own outdoor exposure site as well as in tropical climate on Borneo.

Besides the on-going projects we have and continue to develop a strong network with leading universities and test institutes, globally.

About us

The Danish Wood Treating Company, DWT, was founded in 1977 in Denmark as a spin-off from a large creosote treating company founded in 1838.

The founder, Niels Moldrup, had a degree in forest science, but he was also interested in engineering and started designing wood treating vessels.

The designs were very innovative and successful, and so led to the start of DWT as an independent technology provider for the timber industry.

During the years DWT changed its focus and structure on a long journey and has traded under brands such as IWT and Iwotech also.

Sustainability

Sustainability as a concept was developed and understood several hundred years ago by foresters who acknowledged that if you have rotation ages in a tree stand of a hundred years, several generations would need to look after that stand before anyone could harvest it.

Every year you can take out a small volume of timber as long as the natural increment is higher. If you clear-fell an area you would need to replant it, if the forest was to remain sustainable.

Wood is a sustainable building material provided it is grown in a regenerating forest eco system and used wisely according to its properties. The energy that goes into producing and transporting wood is very competitive towards other materials.

The sun, rain, CO2 from the air, and nutrition from the ground, is all it takes to make wood.

A key factor in building with wood is the service life. The longer a wood product is in service, the longer the carbon from CO2 is stored.

Sustainability is in focus in all WTT processes. We design timber treatment facilities that can increase the service life of a given wood commodity ten-fold or more compared to untreated wood.

Using modified or preservative treated wood is a sustainable choice
